This is one place where open source material has an advantage. When open source material is done as volunteer work, credit is usually the only payment, so it tends to be given routinely. As a result, when you do open source stuff for a company, you can often get credit, too.

For example, a manual I wrote severl years for Progeny Linux Systems is now available as an open source manual at:

Potential clients can see, beyond a doubt, that the writing is mine.
