The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I think you should call the company that made the pb&j things and tell them
what happened and what you expected to see on the wrapper. If you made the
mistake, other people probably have as well, and the company could lose
business if people accidentally ruin the product by cooking it. The company
would probably welcome the information and may decide on their own to add a
message along the lines of "IMPORTANT! Cooking this product will make it
inedible." (future tense!)
They may also decide to send you coupons for freebies (which you will know
in advance not to cook and, hence, can eat). :-)

Subject: RE: "DO NOT COOK"?
Well, I guess it comes down to how likely it is that someone will make a
particular mistake, given a particular set of circumstances. I would
maintain that the mistake we made is one that folks would be likely to
make and that your hypothetical example comes close to reductio ad
absurdum -- or however you spell that. But I recognize that it's a
matter of opinion and that my opinion might not be as objective in this
case as it could be.
