Primary/secondary give a meaning of importance or hierarchy and
master/slave denotes a reliance of one to the other.

In my experience, primary and secondary do not denote importance or hierarchy. The terms are used in redundant systems: "primary" refers to the active unit; "secondary" refers to the unit that becomes active when there is a failure in the primary unit or when someone manually switches over to the secondary unit.
