I'm not sure I agree. Not about experience and credibility thing -- you're absolutely right there. Unfortunately, our credibility doesn't even extend to *writing*.

What I disagree with is the idea that UI has to be a separate speciality.I see UI design as a kind of communication, and isn't that what we do? Of course, it makes sense to allow people to specialize in this particular form of communication, if you have the budget. But how often does that happen? Every place I've worked, we've been lucky to have enough people with basic technical communication skills, never mind specialists. It's been years since I even had a full time editor.

Besides, knowing something about UI design makes us better writers.
