TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Personally, I also am frequently tempted to point out grammar problems that seem to be more than mere typos. When I succumb to the temptation, it is usually in private messages to the individual--who often, of course, does *not* appreciate it no matter how helpful and tactful I have tried to be.
Other than the rare instance in which someone has commented about a spelling or grammar point publicly--and simultaneously made a similar misstep, I have learned it is not a particularly beneficial addition to the list dialog to make such a comment publicly.
What I may *think* about the grammar of some of the "writers," though, is sometimes another matter entirely not for public consumption.
As for getting into a "pissing contest" on the public list, surely that stands in the way of clear communications between the list participants. Of course, I have occasionally been guilty as anyone of doing so--and Eric has properly notified me of same! With any luck, I am *finally* learning better.
