Finally, the kind of advice I was looking for.

I've actually done this sort of thing before. I had a job which involved writing release notes for a product that was based on technology that was the subject of some heavy litigation. (Obviously, I can't be more specific.) I had to listen very carefully to the lawyers and phrase my docs so as to avoid creating legal exposure for my employer. Tricky stuff.

I imagine S-O compliance documentation is very similar. I'm sure I could do a decent job -- a bit of studying, and a lot of careful listening to the lawyers and accountants when they review my work. The hard part is having something specific to point to that says, "I know how to do this." A class, a seminar, an official exam?
