Yes, you can. I have Office 97, Office 2000, and Office XP on the same computer.

I don't know whether problems develop if you install an older version of Office on a computer that already has Office XP on it, because I've always put the newer version on a machine that already had the older version. But I believe it's highly recommended that you put the older one on first and then install the later one.

Just be sure when you install Office, you select the Custom Installation option, change the installation location to a different folder from the one suggested, and select the option to keep all previous versions of Office.

A few minor side effects of having more than one version of office on a machine are that desktop and start menu shortcuts may get overwritten to point to a different version (easy to fix; just create more shortcuts), and double-clicking on a .DOC file may open it in a different version of Office than you wanted to use (easy to fix; use another method of opening the file in Office).
