Sure, why not? But, this means you have to venture
into Marketing territory.

I didn't either. Now I know it's either a shorter
suffix for a .shtml file, a music file, or a Pascal
stub OBJ file. Only took 10 seconds to look up.

For us, the lookup is easy and, in most cases, a
reflex action. For Joe Q. Public, it could very well
be an enigma.

It really *would* be nice for tech tools/gadgets and
software to briefly explain the core technologies at
work for their specific applications.

Again, one more area where tech writers should be
stepping up and saying "I have the knowledge and
ability to make your product more marketable."
