Psychological factors are important, but pretty
hard to predict, which is why professional designers
choose typefaces as much for their plainness and
neutrality, on occasion, as for their charm and pizzazz
on other occasions.

You may not like Arial because it is owned by
Microsoft. Bruce may not like Optima because
it is used in perfume ads.

You can't discount these prejudices entirely, but
they have little to do with the way the typical reader
would actually use a well-designed publication.
