I am editing a white paper written by one of our sales guys (it isn't BAD, really, except that every other statement is untrue). He's used "mainstream" and "State of the Art" in the same sentence, thus:

"...by using mainstream, State of the Art products, we are able to recruit technical support personnel quickly should the business need arise."

Somehow I think "state of the art" is a concept implying more advanced technology than "mainstream."

Can someone confirm this for me? Any advice? I have to be a bit more diplomatic with this person than with most of the people I deal with.

"It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity." --Dave Barry
