Don't forget the other end--how many of us have egos that depend on
having SOMEONE read what we wrote? That doesn't sound like introvert
behavior to me.

I used to think writing was an introvert's profession until I went to a
workshop taught by a successful published writer, whose point was that
only the writing part was solitary, everything else depended on
interacting with other people. (And he was a fiction/fantasy writer!) We
get our material from external sources, and we publish it to an
audience. It opened my eyes.

I think that the only reason this is so is because writing is generally
perceived as a solitary activity. As such, it would attract a large
number of introverts. The reality of this job, however, is that we have
to take input from a lot of external sources, and that is the forte of
the extrovert.
