It's an impossible situation, especially since, with the economic climate, you can't just turn in your notice and expect to have a job waiting on you.

I think the best thing would be for you to get out there and promote your group. Go to the different departments and talk to the supervisors about possible writing projects. Evaluate what has already been documented and see if there is any need for rewriting or updating.

Maybe you could refocus your group into a policy-and-procedures group, or a support group for a specific department (maintenance, et cetera).

Otherwise, it's time to put the call out to Monster.
