I don't know if this will help, but I just went to an STC meeting yesterday that talked about proving the value of docs and using coroporate-speak to communicate the value of your job to those with the purse strings. Some of the tips she presented may help you.

Here's a link to the resources for the presentation. You can take a look at the power point slide show and maybe take a look at some of the books she recommends (I'm definitely planning on reading some of them).

If you're worried about your job, this may be the time to brush up on corporate-speak and try to get some positive attention drawn towards the department. That's just my two cents worth, based solely on a one hour presentation I saw last night......so don't quote me or anything.
