To the best of my knowledge, there have not been any statistically valid studies on who uses Help. If you check the archives, there was a discussion on this about a year (or more) ago. The upshot, I believe, was that there is a lot of anecdotal information, but no real studies. Even the so-called study on Help systems that was done by Jared Spool's group involved only 6 users.

I would dearly love to see a rigorous study of how Help systems are used and have tried for several years to entice various college programs into doing one. No luck thus far.
