I started doing this, and what really appealed to the QA department is that I would give them my docs as soon as they were supposed to start testing. This helped them understand the system they were supposed to be QAing, and allowed them to both test the system against my docs and my docs against the system.

On the other hand, if I ask them to QA docs after they have finished QA'ing the system, they are not as enthusiastic and may have other priorities (testing other new developments, tracking fixes, etc.).
