Normally, I would agree with you -- putting a "big picture" overview in
the hands of a devloper is usually a Dangerous Thing (TM). However, in
this case, I'm fortunate. The architect is blessed with a great mind for
expressing the "big picture" in a way that is very understandable by
many people.
In my company, we've taken advantage of this gift -- the rare expressive
developer -- to enhance knowledge transfer in many ways. First of all,
we present training sessions to internal "customers" on our Operations
Team where they not only hear about the overall system architecture but
also system details (from the entire development team).
