All this talk of training and learning new skills has got me thinking!!! So I have two questions to ask everyone.

1: Has anyone taken the online courses that Techies.com offers? I've been wondering if they were worth the money or not. Granted they're cheap, but I'm poor. ;)

2: Can anyone recommend a very good book for learning Java? I've done a _little_ programing in Visual Basic, so I understand the "basic concepts" of programming. I'm looking for something that will go over basic theory, and start me on programming. Something with example code that works. Something that has pratical real world examples of how to use Java....mmmm not that I'm asking a lot of a book. I've been to the Sun website and I've started looking through their articles.

Thanks in advance. :)
