TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

To give you a ray of hope, my daughters routinely receive
instruction in critical thinking skills in school. They are in the third and
fourth grade. If educators forgot to teach and encourage these skills in the
past, at least they are attempting to correct the problem now.
As far a punctuation is concerned, my fourth grade daughter is
required to write all of her assignments in complete sentences with correct
punctuation. In fact they are so strict that if she forgets to capitalize
properly or forgets her ending punctuation, often the answer is marked
incorrect regardless of the content (which might be taking the concept of
attention-to-detail at bit too far).
