Granularity is a TW take-off on the Systems Analysis concept of Level Of Abstraction. (There are other currently "hot" TW terms - such as task analysis and chunking - that are really just take-offs on long established Systems Analysis terms.)

Granularity = level of abstraction = level of detail.

A software requirements specification is, in the main, procedural information to a high level of abstraction (summary level, but accurate). An end-user manual is, in the main, procedural information to a lower level of abstraction.
