Daniel D Hall asked about WordPerfect Suite 2000 and PDF:

Hi Daniel,

IME, WordPerfect's Publish to PDF facility is less than perfect. However,
SP2 does patch most of the issues. Under Windows 98, WP9 SP2 produces PDFs,
but they do not have the same quality as I get if I print the same document
to Acrobat Distiller 3.02.

AFAIK, two serious issues remain:
- Publish to PDF may not work 'out of the box' on Windows NT.
- If you use the Type 1 fonts that Corel supply, you may get copyright
violation notices when producing PDFs (you also get these notices if you try
to use the same fonts with Acrobat 4).

The Windows NT issue is due to a permissions problem. The PDF-writing
utility needs non-default permissions to do its work. The error message that
you get implies (incorrectly) that you have insufficient memory. You can
find out more about this (and a solution) from the Adobe knowledge base --
search for "out of memory".

WRT the fonts issue, Type 1 fonts contain copyright information that states
whether the font is distributable. Since Acrobat embeds fonts into PDFs, it
refuses to use 'non-distributable' fonts. Corel has published some font
updates on its web site (although they haven't updated them all). Check out
the Technical Support pages.

BTW, with WP service packs, you have to apply them in sequence. SP2 does not
contain the patches of SP1 and you must apply SP1 before applying SP2. In
addition, SP2 is a huge download -- 85MB in total. So, unless you have a lot
of bandwidth, you should probably contact Corel and ask for the CD (you only
pay postage in US and it's totally free in UK).
