FWIW, I try to avoid using "internet" (all lowercase) because it's
ambiguous. Strictly, "internet" is an abbreviation of internetwork (a large
network formed by connecting together smaller networks). The Internet
(proper noun) is the world-wide internetwork on which sits the World Wide
Web and other services. Other examples of internetworks are large,
corporate networks where each department has its own subnet, and wide-area
networks (WANs).
