Eric Ray has kindly given his permission for me to post the following
announcement on the Techwr-L list. As I do not know which of you are
also technical translators I am addressing the whole list.

I recently started an email list for discussing STAR Transit
(translation memory [TM] software) and TermStar (terminology management
software) and Computer Aided Translation [CAT] tools in general.
Translation memory software has proved to be particularly effective when

translating documents in which words, phrases or even sentences are
repeated. Translation memory software is particularly effective for
technical manuals and technical documentation in general. It can speed
up the translation process by 30% to 50% depending on the translator's
expertize as a translator and on their expertize in using the chosen
translation memory tool.

If any of you is interested in discussing and learning more about CAT
tools and STAR's software in particular, please contact me off list and
I will send you an invitation to facilitate the subscription process, or

alternatively you can go to egroups and subscribe to:
"transit_termstar".

I hope to be able to welcome you to the STAR Transit / TermStar
discussion group.

Adrienne
