As a sometimes interviewer, I would like to ask what others look for in
portfolios or samples? A TW is not a copywriter, whose work you can browse
through and get a decent impression of. Robin's suggestion on how the TW
should use his/her portfolio is definitely not something I would like to
see -- it means handing control of the interview over to the interviewee,
rather than running it as a dialog. Even when I have the documents to
study for a weekend, or so, without the context (some knowledge of the
product they describe), there is not much you can determine, except to see
what kind of projects the TW has worked on. What do other interviewers
look for in the samples of work you are shown?

portfolio of high-quality work -- it need not be large but should be
structured to show either a range of skills or a focus. Look for the
candidate either to use it as a prepared, show-and-tell presentation or
to display individual pieces as examples during your conversation.
Please don't ask the candidate to leave the portfolio after the
interview, but you can request copies of work samples.>>
