People are responding to two different things in this thread. Nancy wanted
to know the right word to use to describe the process of the window showing
up on the screen as a result of a user action. Most of you are responding as
though the window is already there:

"The Widget window displays a list of designer widgets."

"Displays" is correct.

But you can't say the Widget window is displaying something if the window
isn't yet visible. The way to tell the user that the window is there
(visible) is that the window is "open":

"The Widget window opens."

Now that we've established that it is open (the user sees it), the user may
push a button or something and ta-daa! "The Widget window displays a rabbit
being pulled from a hat!"

Make sense to anyone besides me?
