For an interesting discussion on dangling participles and other obsolete
grammar principles, see Woe is I by Patricia O'Conner. In her book, Ms.
O'Conner makes the point that many so called conventions are now
obsolete. IMHO writing should parallel the spoken word. When one becomes
too caught up in writing conventions, there is a great danger of the
writing becoming stilted and uninteresting.
