Hello, Xiang Li

I suspect that your problem isn't that the numbering in your template is
incorrect so much as that your use of the template is not correct. If
you're using Word 6, use the File/Templates menu item, click the Attach
button in the Templates and Add-ins dialog box. Word displays a File
Open dialog box. Browse to and select your template and click Ok to
close the File Open dialog box and return to the Templates and Add-ins
dialog box. Check (enable) the Automatically Update Document Styles
checkbox then click Ok to close the Templates and Add-ins dialog box.

Now, return to your document and select a paragraph with Heading 1 style
and select the Format/Style menu item. Word displays a Style dialog box.
Click the Modify button in the Style dialog box. Word displays the
Modify Style dialog box. Click the Format button and choose Numbering
from the list. Word displays a Heading Numbering dialog box; format the
numbering options for your heading to taste and click Ok to close the
Heading Numbering dialog box and return to the Modify Style dialog box.
Check (enable) the Add to Template checkbox, click Ok to close the
Modify Style dialog box and click Ok to close the Style dialog box.

My guess is that if you follow this procedure you shouldn't have any
further trouble.
