Michelle,

Generally speaking, I would use read-only, but only after having defined
what that term means. We also make use of "unavailable", but generally we
use that to refer to fields, buttons, tabs, etc. that are "greyed" out.

From the MS Manual of Style: "Use screen to refer to the graphic portion of
a monitor." Generally, for an application's full-screen windows, I refer to
it by the name in the title bar of that application. So, if you've got an
app called "Grocery List Generator" then I write:

1. Open the Grocery List Generator
2. Click the Shop button
The Pace of Shopping window opens.
3. Select the Frantic check box.

We use "window" to refer to windows this program might open. Non-adjustable
windows are referred to as dialog boxes, or for small ones, message boxes
(following the MS and VB nomenclature). Hope that helps. DB.

I'm sure that most of these answers are a matter of personal preference,
but I'm interested to hear responses. Please no flaming.

Thanks,
Michelle
