It doesn't mean anything. It's actually a newline
metacharacter, a leftover from the encoding process
some persons' mail clients use to make email conform to
Internet standards. Unfortunately, it doesn't always
decode properly, and hence we see loads of annoying=20
gibberish at the end of lines instead of the nice=20
invisible carriage returns that we've come to expect=20
from well-written software. You'll probably notice the
same sort of thing crops up now and then for other
characters, notably quotation marks and apostrophes,
though the number following the = is different.
