Ernest Hemingway could write about anything he wanted in whatever way he wanted using whatever tools he wanted, and deliver it whenever he got around to it. He could live wherever he wanted, work as much or as little as he wanted, name his own price for just about anything, and tell any editor at any publisher to keep the hell away from his manuscript.

And look what happened to Ernest.
