Building HTML-Based Help Systems -- A Hands-On Seminar

(More info available at http://www.weisner.com or call 800-646-9989.)

Implementing the latest HTML-based help technologies can sometimes be confusing and impractical, especially for cross-platform and web-centric applications. Weisner Associates announces a survey course to provide help authors with an opportunity for hands-on discovery of the strengths and weaknesses of HTML Help and JavaHelp. This seminar also introduces a unique hybrid approach that melds multiple web technologies, such as Java, Dynamic HTML, and scripting to deliver cross-platform, browser-based help systems.

In this class, you will:
* gain hands-on experience building help systems that target Microsoft's HTML Help, Sun's JavaHelp, and a hybrid HTML-based help approach
* learn how issues such as operating systems, browser version, and authoring environments will affect the presentation and delivery of your information
* learn the fundamentals of HTML-based help design
* learn how technologies such as Java, ActiveX, DHTML and Javascript can be used to build dynamic online help systems that will run in major browsers
* learn how to get the most out of Blue Sky's RoboHELP HTML Edition and WebHelp applet
* convert existing Windows Help and HTML files into HTML-based help projects
* receive comprehensive resource lists and a CD-ROM containing sample files that you can integrate into your own help projects, authoring tool demos, and shareware

The class instructor is Ben Weisner, president of Weisner Associates and founder of the Online Communicators Network. As a Certified Trainer for products such as RoboHELP and Doc-to-Help, he has successfully trained individuals from hundreds of organizations in the tools and technologies of online help development. In addition to extensive hands-on experience with WinHelp and HTML development, Mr. Weisner has been actively involved in the design and development of HTML-based help systems, including the online help for Macromedia's Dreamweaver HTML authoring software.
