I've used this method for a while, and it works great. The initial setup
is a bit daunting, but then it's a breeze. I've had no problems with it
at all.

By the way, I spent days trying to figure out how to get Word
autonumbering to work like it's supposed to. Couldn't do it. I came
close, but it always screwed up styles and indents. It is definitely
broken; even Microsoft says so, there's a bug report about it on their
Web site.

Just make sure you document how you implement it. If you spend some time
on a project that doesn't require numbering, it's easy to forget the
keys that you press to get numbers.
