Dear Deborah
I think I've got it!
Now all I have to do is find it.

Subject: MSWord Index-generating problem

Good morning!

I'm hoping someone can help me with this Word problem. I have created
an Index in my document
When I generate the index entries, the heading "Index" on my page is in
section 1 but the entries appear in a section 2
first page of the index is correctly numbered 138 but the second
page of the index starts numbering at 2!
Why is this happening?

I had a similar problem recently, and it turned out to be a conflict between my desire to concecutively number the pages of the document, and the command I gave the index formatter to start numbering at a certain number (or the default numbering of the indexer.)

Open the insert page numbering dialog box and click the formatting tab.
Change the instructions for numbering the sections (you may have to move the cursor to each separate section, one after the other.
