Credibility (WAS: Texts on Grammar)

Subject: Credibility (WAS: Texts on Grammar)

In response to a listmember's post requesting referrals to good books on
grammar, I feel compelled to post this public service message:

Credibility Is Everything.

If you don't know a thing about the subject you're writing about, your
grammar skills, whatever they may be, won't help one bit.

When you know what you're writing about and can quote chapter and verse
from the so-called "industry bible", defending your work is easy.
Dazzle with knowledge as well as brilliance. We're technical writers.
As such, we're supposed to know what we're writing about because we know
the subject matter as well as where to find the subject matter experts.

Bullshit can be smelled a mile away.

George Mena, Tech Writing Consultant
(with special thanks and prayers of gratitude to Lew Jr., Art Jr.,
Brian, Charlie, Don, Loran, Dewey and Catfish, wherever you are.)
