Like everything else, there are good agencies and bad agencies. Like you
I've been put forward for positions that I didn't feel were appropriate for
one reason or another - skillset, location etc. Over the years I have cut
down my list of "main" agencies to just a few who specialise in TW and who
have come up with the goods. This doesn't mean I don't look at others but
they are all treated with suspicion until proven! Here in the UK it's
probably easier as there are (probably) fewer specialist agencies around.
Having said that I got my current job when I say is advertised in a local
(free!) newspaper!.
