To me, the phrasing in Microsoft's style manual implies that
while "Wizard" is a registered trademark, it is not Microsoft's.
Indeed, I don't see "Wizard" as such in either the list of
trademarks or the list of product names from Microsoft's website
(though TipWizard is listed as a registered trademark).
A few minutes with AltaVista reveal that...
- According to some pages describing DNA purification systems and
such, "Wizard is a trademark of Promega Corporation and is
registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office."
- According to a couple of IBM pages, Wizard is a trademark of
Sharp Corporation; but the pages don't say what Sharp is using
the trademark on.
- Many compound words and phrases including the word "Wizard" are
registered as trademarks. Option Wizard, RegWizard, English
Wizard, and Document Wizard are only a few of them.
