If you have a different version of Word available it maybe able to open
the document.

I ran into a problem on another user's machine last week. She was able
to open the document in Word 7 but Word would hang.

She was able to open the document in Word 6 with the converter. I forget
whether I saved the document as a Word 6 .doc or as a .rtf file.
Whichever it was, we were then able to open it in Word 7 and proceed
normally.


Hope that gives you some ideas.
