<< I would personally recommend taking: Visual Basic, C++, or Java. But,
please look into the job ads and the kinds of tech writing you want to do.
Some languages are more prevalent in certain areas of the country or more
popular for developing certain products.
The advice that Tracey (?) gave about taking a general programming class is
very good, too. A general knowledge of software production is an excellent
skill to have as a new technical writer (or any technical writer for that
matter).

As a newcomer with the same questions as the Cundiffs-- and yet to use any
of the languages listed by Sigrid-- my question is this: to what degree
should one learn these applications? Would it be most advantageous to take
an in-depth course? Or would reading a reference book suffice? Not having
used these programs before, I have no idea yet how complicated they are.
Will they take me forever to learn? Is it too late to hop on the boat?????
