| Does anyone know where I can find a reference for an
| abbreviation for Inch Per Second? Should it be listed
| as an acronym, IPS (Inch Per Second), ips, or I/S?

In the engineering field, we use Inches per Second as a unit
of measure for vibration analysis of machinery. In this case,
I have generally seen it written (and it is pretty much
universally understood) as:

IPS or in/sec.
