Very challenging position available on California's central coast

We're looking for an experienced tech writer with a VERY strong
technical background in telephony & telecommunications and/or
object-oriented software development. Our company makes unified
messaging systems (voice-mail, e-mail, fax...) that run in the public
switched telephony network.

I'm afraid the "qualifications" list below is one of those
"walks-on-water" things, but the position we're looking to fill is
definitely a challenging one. If you hire into it, you'll be responsible
for developing and maintaining an up-to-date, deeply technical
familiarity with the company's product line, and for preparing
customized documentation sets in support of Custom Engineering projects
that produce customer-specific "tailorings" of the product.

This isn't a position wherein a technoid writes a draft of a manual and
a techwriter edits and clarifies it. Rather, the techwriter her/himself
is responsible for highly technical research -- for example, examining
technical specifications and Object Diagrams produced by software
engineers, and developing a customer's-eye-view of the proposed product
based on understanding those documents and conducting (well-prepared)
interviews with the engineers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*       demonstrated command of English grammar and spelling
*       demonstrated ability to explain technical material clearly to
technical and non-technical audiences
*       experience in developing interactive online help systems (ideally,
using RoboHelp)
*       ability to handle multiple projects concurrently

       Sufficient education & technical background to be able to perform
the following duties:
*       develop and maintain an up-to-date technical understanding of the
company's mainstream product line, in order to be able to understand the
deviations involved in customized versions
*       maintain an up-to-date familiarity with the mainstream documentation
set (other writers are responsible for creating and maintaining that
mainstream set)
*       define the documentation-impact of Custom Engineering projects --
which existing documents are affected, what new documents must be
created, etc.
*       perform the writing and media-development tasks required for
delivering, to Custom Engineering customers, documentation that
accurately and clearly describes the delivered software and hardware
Knowledge of the following areas would be especially beneficial:
*       Telecommunications and telephony protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Common
Channel Signaling, ISDN/PRI)
*       Object-Oriented analysis and programming
*       Microsoft Windows NT architecture and methodologies
