For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Over the space of a few years I changed the size of our manuals from A4
(Too Big) to A5 (Too Small) and finally, 7.5 x 9 inch (Just Right). I
settled on 7.5x9 because we started distributing in the U.S. and I
wanted a standard U.S. format in a middling size. The first two manuals
I grabbed were 7.5 x 9 inch (Using FrameMaker and MS Word 6). I like
the Frame doc set a lot, so that was good enough for me.
Now I see on the list all these references to 7 x 9 inch manuals. Can
anyone give me an impression of what are the most common formats?
