I once worked at a law office--briefly. They had a huge file room with
rows and rows of moveable floor-to-ceiling shelves (you pushed a button
and a space would open up in front of the appropriate shelf). If this
is a common setup in law offices, could you adapt this into a metaphor?

(I hated those things--always expected someone to push the button while
I was between them. They were only open on one side, and I was never
sure I could run the length before getting crushed. Someday I'm going
to use them as a weapon in a murder mystery.)
