TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
A potential employer may be unlikely to find out your current salary from
your current employer, but most previous employers *will* divulge that
information. Generally, they can give your start date, starting rate of
pay, termination date (that doesn't mean you were fired), ending rate of
pay, and job title without jeopardizing themselves.
Anything more than that, such as how good a worker were you, how prompt,
etc., etc., and they could face a lawsuit from you if you could determine
that you lost a potential job because of something that they said about
you.
