Dear Colleagues:
SAT (GRE, etc.) scores are like IQ scores: they are excellent for
predicting future *academic* performance. Beyond that they are also good
predictors of performance on other tests similar to the SAT (GMAT, LSAT,
etc.).
They have almost no predictive value when it comes to professional/job
performance. As an aside, most doctors, lawyers and CEOs do not have IQ
scores much above 120-125, or about the same as most college graduates.
The personality factors that make people successful after they leave
school are quite different from the criteria used to gain admission.
No knowledgeable or well-intentioned employer should be interested in
SAT scores.
