>On the sneaky questions front, the questions that Bob cited are both
illegal. A potential employer is not allowed to ask age-related questions,
nor are they allowed to inquire about marital or dependent status.
OTOH, when I interview, there are some things I feel that morally I
*have* to tell the prospective employer - for one, I have 2 high-
needs children, one of whom is requiring a lot of diagnostic meetings,
school meetings, etc. I can guarantee that I'll average 40 hours per
week over any 2 week period (and if not, I'll discuss it with my boss
to see how we can adjust things out) but I can't guarantee exactly
*what* 40 hours they'll be. I'll do my best to not miss important
meetings, and I will not allow this to affect my ability to make
deadlines, but it is a reality of my life.
I feel that an employer *must* know this as part of making the decision
whether to hire me - because if they can't live with this, we'd both
be very unhappy.
Usually I preface the discussion with "you can't ask this, but I feel that
I must tell you that..."
It must work; at least I'm still finding work to do. OTOH, this is
why I'm contracting rather than being a full time employee somewhere.
