Perhaps the ? is not what a TW makes in Location A vs.
Location B, or even the Cost of Living (COL), but
COMPARATIVE salaries ... what do engineers, programmers,
other techies make (salary, benefits, perks). You can
guesstimate the $ by buying papers from the area and
checking the classifieds over the course of several Sundays.
There also are ''national'' papers (general and career),
plus associations (eg STC) and more web sites (Monster, CC,
etc.) that list jobs, some of which include compensation
information.
Finally, if you simply are looking to maintain a standard
of living, there is at least one Universal Resource Locator
(URL) that (caveat) ''GENERALLY'' compares COL between
locations (sans taxes -- keep that in mind).
It makes no difference if you are a beginning tw or very
senior, you CAN find a financial yardstick with which to
measure compensation.
When all is said and done, you still have to consider
desirability of location, company, and job.
