Dan,
If you read my other post you will understand that I once had the job of
condensing resumes for people. And I said the same thing. They showed us
how to do it. What it amounted to was taking each job description and
listing the top skill from that position under the heading of special
skills. In some cases, the number of years doing this skill was placed in
parenthesis.
i.e.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Copy polisher (6 years)
Line editing
Proofreading
The idea here would be that it wouldn't be the resume that got you the
job, it would be the resume that got you the interview, and generally
before the interview each company would give you their own application
form to fill out. That was where you put your job description/information
and dates (1990-1996), so when you were seated across from someone you
would say, "As you can see, I worked for 6 years as a copy polisher and
my other duties there included...."
That's how we were told to do it. It was tough though because some people
had experience that even I didn't want to deduce to one line under a
SPECIAL SKILLS heading.
