Sorry folks,
I should have been more specific in my reference to printing "smart"
doc. This part of my response was a joke. The smart-docs reference
was to the printed manuals held by the service techs in the field, not
the electronic files stored on the computer.

My company prints service manuals for all of our products to be used
by service techs. The service techs that use these manuals are
wondering
if they have the latest revision of the manual. Does anyone have an
idea of how a printed manual can be marked so that a user can tell if
it is the latest revision?

The closest you can come to solving this problem is to print revision
numbers and revision dates in the header or footer of every page. The
only way your techs will know if they have the latest revision is to
ask someone in the office what the latest revision is and compare it
to what they have. Of course, if you print "smart" docs, the revision
numbers and dates will automatically update every time a new revision
is produced. Has anyone ever seen or know how to print "smart" docs?
I sure would like to know how to print "smart" docs myself.
