Yessssss.....

But another all-too-familiar problem with tech writing academics is
that very few have actually WORKED as tech writers themselves. They
may have done a little consulting here or there, possibly even a
contract job... but little "real world" experience. Most universities
are more concerned about the PhD and publishing than about hiring
instructors who know what they're doing.
