This is a reposting of a job announcement that came across my desk yesterday.
Unfortunately I did not include the information about the location, etc. of
this job, and I apologize for that slip. The job posting is from Lawrence
Berkeley Laboratory (in the "Oakland Hills" above the UC Berkeley campus in
Berkeley, CA --- a great place to be in the 60s and a pretty terrific place to
be in the 90s too!)

DUTIES: Essential -- Incumbent will perform and manage a wide variety of
technical editing and writing duties, with competence, reliability, and
initiative. Typical documents may include
presentations to DOE, Congress, and other funders; color promotional
brochures; and proposals.
Will be responsible for design, development, and maintenance of an extensive
Web site and the
writing, editing, and production of technical documents for a supercomputer
user community.
Activities will involve interaction with scientists, engineers, Laboratory
management, users, and funders. Must be willing work in a dynamic, changing
environment with urgent internal and external deadlines. The ability to manage
and prioritize work and then rearrange priorities as workload shifts is
essential. Responsibililties also will include developing document procedures
that provide for quality assurance. The accepted candidate must be able to
work in a multiplatform environment and work with a wide variety of computer
programs and will need to learn others as the need arises. Some work outside
of regular business hours may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Essential -- Excellent written and oral communication skills
and experience in writing and editing technical material. Demonstrated ability
to write for technical and nontechncial audiences, conveying scientific or
general PR information as required. Demonstrated ability to edit for
organization, clarity, consistency, and style. Must have in-depth knowledge
of, and skills in, computer-assisted publication-production techniques. Must
be expert user of Macintosh applications, particularly Microsoft Word. Must be
have experience converting documents to HTML and developing Web pages.
Marginal -- Experience with UNIX, Perl, Java, and/or cgi scripting a plus.
B.A. in English or Journalism preferred.
