STC's Intercom Magazine and Journal (Technical Communication) are both
excellent. The magazine has practical information, while the articles in
the journal are more academic, although the new editor (Dr. Hayhoe)
recommends an application section for every such article, which is good
for practitioners.
IEEE's Transactions on Professional Communication is pretty good, although
much more academic than Technical Communication. You have to not only
qualify/join IEEE to get Transactions as a membership benefit, but you
also have to join the IEEE Professional Communication Society. Otherwise,
I think that you can subscribe to the journal.
Don't know about ACM.
I also recommend The Journal of Technical Writing and Communication.
